Abuja Airport Manager Decries Flight Cancellations

The Airport Manager of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Chris Bature has taken a swipe at the operators of domestic airlines for the arbitrary flight delays and cancellations at the airport.

He explained that the cancellation of flights and non-adherence to schedule had led to congestion of the airport terminal and over-stretching of facilities at the building.

According to him, the facilities at the airport were installed based on certain number of passengers which had been exceeded as a result of non-adherence to schedule.

“the congestion of terminals due to delay by airlines has put a lot of burden on the passengers because the facilities were built with a number of people in mind and once you begin to over-load the structure with more than the required number, the cooling system will become ineffective and seats will not be enough,” he added.

He decried a situation where a flight that was scheduled for 10a.m would leave at 5p.m, adding that passengers were subjected to unnecessary stress, pains and discomfort because of such development.

The Airport Manager expressed satisfaction with the pace of work at the domestic wing of the airport, noting that the airport was undergoing total rehabilitation with new structure being put up.

He said that the old domestic terminal would be used for pilgrimages and general aviation at the end of the on-going re-construction work.
