…Sends Two Bills To Assembly
As part of efforts to drive home his restoration agenda, Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Seriake Dickson has sent two Bills to the State House of Assembly.
The two Bills are the Transparency Bill and the Cultism Proscription Bill.
Governor Dickson disclosed this when the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bayelsa State Chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenagoa.
Describing the two Bills as critical to the socio-economic development of the state, Hon. Dickson said the Transparency Bill will compel the Executive arm of government as well as council chairmen to make public all revenue that accrue to them monthly, while the cultism proscription Bill seeks to proscribe cultism in the state.
The Governor, who acknowledged the robust partnership he enjoys with the clergy, charged the church to continue to propagate the ideals of probity, accountability and service to the people.
He also charged the clergy to preach about the ills of HIV/AIDS because of its ravaging effect, saying that what would be the use of building schools, roads and other social amenities, if there were no youths to enjoy them.
Speaking on holy pilgrimage, the Governor said it was a good thing because it brings about spiritual up-liftment but, however, expressed reservations concerning the scale of the number of persons participating in the exercise annually.
Governor Dickson assured that government will work closely with CAN to facilitate the building of a Christian Centre in the state, just as he promised to look into all the requests made by the Association.
Earlier, Chairman of the State CAN, Most Reverend Israel Ege, had assured the Governor of CAN’s willingness to partner with government with a view to improving the spiritual well-being of the people.
He said with proper mobilisation, the youth wing of the Association can fight against cultism and militancy.
