Workers Laud Governor For Signing Contributory Pension Bill

Civil servants in Rivers have commended the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for signing the Contributory Pension Bill into law.

The law is mandatory for all workers in the state public service who are to contribute a minimum of 7.5 per cent of their monthly salaries to the pension scheme.

Mrs Ndidi Amadi, a civil servant, said workers had been expecting the law’s enactment to enable the state key into the contributory policy already operational in the federal civil service.

Another worker, Mr Mike Ojinwga, called on the state government to ensure the proper implementation of the policy.

“Pension is a very serious matter. Its implementation is important, as nobody wants to hear stories after working for several years,” he said.

Also speaking on the issue, Jacob Emecheta who is also a civil servant advised workers to be careful while choosing administrators for their pension accounts.

“Some of us have monitored the implementation in some federal outfits.

“However, while we thank the state government for passing the law, let all of us be sure of the organizations we give our money to manage,” he said.
