Union Members Assure Of Job Security
The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) have been assured of their job security despite the introduction of scratch credit card payment bill system.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of one of the successor companies, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Mr Oyesiku Bolaji said that rather than job losses, the company would embark on fresh recruitment exercise to improve on its workforce.
He said the company is currently expanding its horizon and in the process of recruiting qualified engineers, artisans and other professionals to meet the on-going challenge of expansion.
The company executive said no members of the union within the company would be retrenched as the Minister of Power has reiterated that PHCN will not retrench workers in response to fears being expressed by the workers, people and the union leaders.
He stated that the company will need engineers, and other professionals to meet the electricity need of the people through providing more jobs for the qualified personnel.
However, the privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has created fear of possible retrenchment by the company’s management and successor.
