RSG Sends 30 To India For Maritime Studies

The Rivers State Government has awarded overseas scholarship to 30 indigenes of the state for maritime studies in India.

The commissioner for Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment, Dr Ipalibo Harry told newsmen at the weekend in Port Harcourt that the beneficiaries drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state would undergo one year training programme at the India first Maritime University  Amet in Channai.

Dr Harry said that the successful ones among the beneficiaries will later procesed to the United Kingdom for a higher National Diploma (HND) programme.

While addressing the beneficiaries, the commissioner charged them to take the programme seriously to enable other indigenes of the state also benefit, and warned that the government will not hesitate to discipline any one found to be of questionable character.

He described Amet University as one of the best in the world in maritime studies and enjoined them to thank Governor Amaechi for making their dreams come to pass.

According to the commissioner, Rivers State government is determined to create a pool of manpower that will be the envy of other states in the country.

Mr Peterside Garaford Opuada who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the state governor for considering them worthy for the programme, promising that the 30 of them from the state would make the state proud.
