Pipeline Vandalisation: Union Absolves Tanker Drivers

The Rivers State Chairman, Petroleum Tankers Drivers Union, Chief John Amajuoyi, has absolved the union from complicity in the vandalisation of pipeline across the country.

Amojuoyi who made the avertion recently while fielding  question from newsmen on the activities of his group regarding the distribution of petroleum products across the country said tanker drivers have been directed to avoid broken pipelines conveying petroleum products, like a plague.

The chairman noted that tough there are some members who may shun the directive for their selfish ends, the union would never support any of its members caught in any act of economic sabotage.

Amojuoyi used t he opportunity to call on the security agencies to stop harassing petroleum tanker drivers in the course of their duties.

He explained that the Petroleum Task Force (PTF) is the only agency  authorised to check trucks, adding that his union has very cordial relationship with PTF.

“Some policemen left their job to perform another person’s job. We have task force for petroleum and we know them. But some policemen prefer to intimidate people. They leave their job and go about doing something different,” he pointed out.

Commenting on the allayed proliferation illegal refineries in the Niger Delta region, the petroleum tanker drivers boss blamed the security agencies for the development, adding that such could be wiped out overnight with the co-operation of the security agencies who are well aware of the location of such illegal outfits.

Chief Amojuoyi called for synergy among security agencies in the country to strengthen the security of life and property in the country.
