PDP Reschedules Congresses, National Convention

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has for the second time rescheduled the congresses and the National convention of the party for the first week of March.

A statement endorsed by the National Publicity Secretary, Prof, Rufai Ahmed Alkali said the National Working Committee took the decision last week in an emergency meeting in Abuja.

Prof. Alkali said the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party would meet in two weeks time to consider and approve a new time table for the congress and convention.

It would be recalled that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party earlier approved a time table for congresses and the National Convention which was unfortunately derailed by the recent strike action by labour and the serious security challenges the nation was contending  with.

The party, however, said the Supreme Court ruling on tenure of Governors of Adamawa, Bayelsa, Cross River, Kogi and Sokoto States and subsequent release of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) time table which clashed with the party earlier timetable in the month of February 2012 were also contributory factors for the rescheduling.

According to the party, “the unforeseen action by INEC necessitated a postponement of our earlier programme in order not to complicate preparations for elections in the five states where elections were ordered by the Supreme Court.
