The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) which called its members out on strike in protest against alleged illegal deduction of huge amount of money from the salaries of workers by the Management of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has suspended the industrial action.

The industrial action was declared few days ago over what the Union leadership alleged as connivance between Shell and suspended unit chairmen in Port Harcourt and Wari Branches of the union to illegally deduct workers salaries without the consent of the workers.

The Union Leadership has therefore directed its Petrol Tanker Drivers (PTD) section to immediately commence the lifting of Petroleum products across the country.

According to the Chairman NUPENG Western zone, Comrade Tokunbo Korodo the Union has suspended all action, that is, the picketing of SPDC and loading of products, adding that the Union did not want to punish Nigerians for the sins of Shell, but wanted government or appropriate authorities to call Shell to order.

It would be recalled that few months ago the National Secretariat of NUPENG has suspended the Unit Executive of the Union at SPDC Port Harcourt for conniving with the company management to illegally deduct workers salaries without the approval of the National Executive Council of the Union.
