NUP Seeks Review Of Civil Servants’ Retirement Age
Members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in the state, have called for the immediate review of civil servants retirement age to 70 years in line with modern reality.
Addressing the union members recently in Port Harcourt, the Oda Abuan, King Kaleh O.M. Obuge (JP), a retired civil servant in the state said that it was his candid opinion to recommend to the appropriate authorities that the retirement age of civil servants should be raised to 70 years.
The royal highness said such review would enable those coming behind in the service to benefit from the wealth of experience of senior civil servants.
The monarch added that the experiences required by retired civil servants during their active service years no doubt are making them to swim with the current in all manner of consciousness, stressing that most retired civil servants were standing like a rock against the expected day to come.
He said most retired civil servants in the state had made invaluable and tremendous contributions to the various facets of the society during their service to humanity.
The Oda Abuan charged the leadership of the union in the state to find a lasting solution to the problem of delayed payments and harmonisation of allowances of pensioners.
The retired civil servant now traditional ruler said, it was regrettable that virtues in the civil service had actually deteriorated to the extent that record keeping was treated with levity, thereby creating room for falsification, loss of vital documents and information.
