NNL Board Happy With League Opening Games

The board of Nigeria National League (NNL) has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of matches at the various centres at the beginning of the 2011/2012 league season last weekend.

The board said this in Lagos in a statement by the NNL spokesman, Agunzeh Marcel.

“The board, after reviewing the conduct of players, officials of the clubs and match officials in the first week, noted that the nation’s second top league commenced with high spirit,’’ it said.

The statement added that it started with a high hopes of changing the face of football in country.

It said the chairman of NNL board, Chief Emeka Inyama, expressed satisfaction with the commencement of the league.

The statement said the board would not hesitate to move on with the transformation programmes which it introduced to lift the standard of the national league.

“After reviewing the matches played in the first week of the national league, the board felt satisfied with its smooth take off.

“We also applaud the conduct of clubs and match officials who have keyed into our programmes to give the NNL a new face to be counted as one of the major leagues in Africa.

“With our programmes of using the league to contribute to changing the face of football in Nigeria, we assure both the clubs and officials that we are ready to do more till the end of the season.”

A total of 14 matches were played at seven centres in the four groups last week, with a record of 24 goals, 19 of which were scored at home.

Nasarawa United recorded the highest number of three goals after walking over Sokoto United, while away teams scored a total of five goals. (NAN)
