Moses Happy To Play For Nigeria
Former England youth player Victor Moses flew with the Nigeria national team to Kigali on Monday night ahead of their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Rwanda.
The Wigan forward is expected to make his debut for the Super Eagles today under Stephen Keshi and put to rest the speculation surrounding his senior international career after playing for England’s junior teams in the past.
Moses left Nigeria as an 11-year-old and has become an exciting young player in the English Premier League.
His previous attempt to switch allegiance to Nigeria was held back by paper work at FIFA, but he has now been cleared to play for the country of his birth.
Responding to the question of whether it was a difficult decision for him to have to turn up for the Eagles after training on Monday, Moses was quoted by Vanguard to have responded in the affirmative: “I wouldn’t know that but I’m happy to be here to play for Nigeria. I was born here and I’m happy to be home.”
The 21-year-old will fancy his chances under Keshi, who is looking to rebuild a formidable team following Nigeria’s recent troubles that saw them fail to qualify for the 2012 Afcon.
