Ministry To Clear Refuse At Creek Road Market

Rivers State Ministry of Environment, says it is partnering other ministries and agencies to address the problem of refuse disposal at the Creek Road Market, in the old Port Harcourt township.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Nyema Weli said this during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise at the weekend in Port Harcourt. He said that the Ministry was determined to address the problem of refuse disposal in that part of the city.

Dr. Weli also said that efforts were being made to ensure the reliability of equipment to ensure that Port Harcourt and its environs were covered in terms of refuse collection and disposal.

The Commissioner however, stressed the need for residents of the city and environs to see the problem of sanitation as a collective one, while for soliciting their support to ensure the cleanliness of the city.

According to him, the people can do this by disposing their refuse decently, as well as participate in every sanitation exercise.

Also speaking, Chairman, Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Environment, Hon. Victoria Nyeche said that the Assembly would appropriate more funds to the Ministry of Environment this year, to enable it carry out its activities.

Hon. Nyeche also said that the Rivers State Sanitation Law was being amended by the House to make room for enforcement of sanitation exercise across the state.
