Man, 38, In Custody For Illegal Arm Possession

A middle aged man Chinwendu Njoku has been remanded in prison custody for alleged possession of illegal arm (locally made pistol) by a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate presided over by E.C. Woke.

The accused person, Chinwendu Njoku, 38 is standing trial on a one count charge bordering on possession of illegal arm.

The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Godwin Nwinam told the court that the accused person on the 3rd January, 2012 at Nili community in Etche Local Government Area, of Rivers State did illegally possess one locally made pistol, and when interrogated by security operatives could not give satisfactory account on the fire arm.

He further told the court that the accused person committed an offence punishable under section 3(1) of the Robbery and fire arms (special provision) Act Cap R II Laws of the federation 2004.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, E.C. Woke ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison custody while the case file is to be remitted to the office of Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice. The case was adjourned to 15/3/2012 for continuation.
