Govt Reviews Transport Fares In PH

The Rivers State Government has reviewed the transport fare of various routes in Port Harcourt and its environs.

Commissioner for Transport, Hon. George Tolofari disclosed this in a recent meeting he held with the Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Hon Okey Amadi, Controller General of TIMARIV, Mr. Nelson Jaja, Chairman of ‘the State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr. Osobo Jack and the Executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Rivers State Chapter.

Hon Tolofari explained that the review in transport fare became necessary due to the increase in pump price from N6S.00 to N97.00 by the Federal Government.

He said with this review, bus fare from Mile 3 to Mile 1 would be N50.00, Mile 1 to Lagos bus stop N50.00, Lagos bus stop to Borokiri N50.00, and added that taxi fare from Pack to Rumuola is N80.00, Aggrey to Borikiri N60.00, Aggrey to Garrison N60.00 while Accra to Rumuola would be N120.00.

On his part, the Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Hon. Okey Amadi assured the Union that State Government would ensure that petroieum products are available at filling stations in Rivers State.

The Commissioner disclosed that his Ministry has ensured that all petroleum products allocated to the State are not diverted to neighbouring States, adding that the product would be sold at the approved price.

Also speaking, the Controller General of the Rivers State Traffic Management Authority, Mr. Nelson Jaja warned that as an enforcement unit of the Ministry of Transport, TIMARIV would ensure that the State laws on traffic are enforced.

In his remark, the Deputy State Chairmen of the NURTW, Pastor Duma Kalango assured that all commercial drivers would comply with the review in transport fare and advised commuters to insist on it.
