Ex-Militant Leader Plans Talents Hunt In Rivers

Leader of the Niger Delta  Vigilante, Chief Ateke Tom, has disclosed plans to embark on a talent hunt in Rivers Sate to develop budding talents in various spheres of creativity. Chief Tom unveiled his proposed project during the presentation of star prize of a Hyna car he donated to the winner of the maiden edition of the 2011, Miss Port Harcourt Township Beauty Pageant, Miss Confidence Aguma, at Okochiri in Okrika Local Government Area, recently.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the star prize presentation, Chief Tom said, he would partner with 2 MUCH Entertainment, an events management group to carry out the project.

He said the talent hunt would be fully integrated in the 23 local government areas and would be sustained on yearly basis.

Chief Tom who was also conferred with grand patron award, by 2 MUCH Entertainment, assured of his support for capacity building of youth in Rivers State.

In his remark, chairman of the occasion, Nollywood Icon, Gentle Jack, thanked Chief Ateke for his support to youth development in the Niger Delta. He said the project will “re-direct youths in the state to be focused and self reliant through the discovery and utilization of their talents.” He called on the youth to always embrace dialogue as a means of resolving issues.

In her remark, the organizer of the 2011 Miss Port Harcourt Township, Beauty Pageant, Kate Sunday, thanked Chief Tom for his gesture.

She said her outfit was poised to collaborate with government, multinationals and public – spirited individuals to develop the potentials of youths in the state, especially at the grassroots.

In her response, the new  “queen”, Miss Confidence Aguma said she would use her position as Miss Port Harcourt Township to create awareness against antisocial activities among the youth.

As peace ambassador, the Beauty Queen, a final year student of Political Science in the University of Port Harcourt, called on youths to develop self confidence and embrace hard work as the only means of attaining excellence in life.
