A former Local Government Chairman in Enugu State has called on all Nigerians to join hands with Federal Government and security agencies to tackle the menace of Boko Haram sect in the country.

Speaking shortly after being  made patron of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Enugu State Council, the immediate past chairman of Agwu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Hon. Uche Anioke said the need for all hands to be on deck in finding a lasting solution to the unholy activities of Boko Haram sect had become very imperative because “when a bomb is planted, it does not know who is a Christian or Muslim, or whether one is from the North or South. The bomb they are planting is like tremor or Kartrinna, when it comes, it has no boundary”.      Hon. Anioke, however,  told Journalists to always write stories that would unite the country, rather than divide it.

As those who set agenda in society, he said it was incumbent on journalists to write stories that would reduce tension in Nigeria as well as present facts that would make the outside world to see Nigerians as people who are united.

Expressing optimism that Nigeria will ever remain united, Hon. Anioke  went on to say, “We should avoid at all costs, anything that will give rise to disintegration of this country”, adding that the importance of peace and unity in a country like Nigeria cannot be over-emphasised, especially at this point in time.

He, however, used the forum to commend journalists in Enugu, particularly members of the Correspondent’s Chapel over the manner in which they have been carrying out their duties, expressing satisfaction that the men of the pen profession have succeeded in promoting peace and unity among people from different ethnic groups living in the state, urging them not to relent.

Speaking at the occasion that attracted people from all walks of life, including commissioners, Senior special advisers and Assistants to Governor Sullivan Chime, as well as other top government functionaries, the Zonal Director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Pastor (Mrs.) Eme Ekpo, described Hon. Anioke, as a man endowed with good leadership qualities.

His achievements as chairman of Awgu Local Government Council, she said, “are there for all to see”, praying God to give him the strength and wisdom to serve not only Enugu State, but the nation on a higher level.

Also in his opening remarks, chairman of the Correspondent’s Chapel, Mr. Chris Oji, equally spoke in the same manner as FRCN zonal Director, describing Hon. Anioke as a great achiever who succeeded in impacting positively on the lives of the people of the area, during the period he served as chairman of Awgu Local Government Area.

He said the decision to make him patron of the chapel was purely on merit, praying God to elevate him higher to enable him impact positively more on the lives of the common people in society.
