Former Caretaker Committee chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon Isaac Mietamuno – Jaja, has commended Hon Dakuku Peterside for setting up an Economic Zone Development Committee in the area.

Speaking with newsmen recently in Port Harcourt Hon Mietamuno-Jaja opined that the initiative would help fast-treck economic development of the Andoni/Opobo Nkoro federal constituency considering the huge water resources of the area.

The former ONOLGA CTC boss who is also a member of the seven-man committee disclosed that already the body had begun intense deliberations noting “when we finish our report the world will know  that the area has economic potentials above what some people see”.

Jaja gave kudos to Hon Peterside, who is the federal  lawmaker representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro constituency in the House of Representatives pointing out that the gesture underscores his quest to transform the area through people-oriented legislation.

One of the aims of the initiative he explained is, “ to ensure that the area becomes an economic bloc in the state and the country in general”.

Hon Mietamnuo-Jaja however lamented the absence of economic variables such as social amenities in the constituency, stressing that infrastructure provision would help foster development in the area.

He also underscored the need in raising education and school enrolment in the area, “education is the epicenter of any quality development,” Mietamuno-Jaja said, “education is the first and second to none and so we have to tap hugely from it.”

Aside the dwindling education fortunes in the area, the former LG boss called on the federal government to tackle the ocean surge problem in the area.

He warned that if nothing concrete was done to protect riverine communities in the area most of them would be submerged in the nearest future.
