Director Urges Govt’s Action On Football College

In order to develop grassroots football in Rivers State, the Director of the Real Club Deportive (RCD) Espanyol Football Academy in Port Harcourt, Stanley Wariso has appealed to the State government to expedite action on the building of the Football College of Excellence in Abara, Etche Local Government Area of the state.

Wariso made the appeal recently in Port Harcourt during one of the club’s training sessions at the training pitch of the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt.

According to him, the state government has already agreed to partner with the club’s representatives in Barcelona, Spain, saying that, the state government should endeavour to do it’s part of the bargain by ensuring that the college of Excellence and other promises made to them concerning the academy get off the ground.

He continued that the college when completed would provide young footballers a more conclusive environment for their chosen career. That, he noted this would further enhance their performances and the growth of Football in the state.

“I am pleading and as well reminding the state government to try and do something about promises to promote the RCD in Port Harcourt, improve the standard of soccer and bring back the last glory of the sport in the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, the club has loaned out two players to Nsor Aji and Joel Promise Dolphins FC, to join the club for the 2011/2012 league season.

The RCD boss said that the boys were given to the club in order to keep them in good shape before sending them abroad to Spain as per the objectives of the academy.
