Accountant General Hails FG’s YOUWIN Programme
The Accountant-General (A-G) of Abia State, Chief Gabriel Onyendilefu, has expressed the optimism that the Federal Government’s YOUWIN programme will bring the best out of the nation’s teeming youths.
Onyendilefu stated this on Saturday in a paper he presented at the inaugural lecture of All Ukwa-Ngwa Youth Association, organised by the Isialangwa North Local Government chapter of the association.
He said in the paper, entitled: “Repositioning the Nigerian Youths As Agents of Change”, that the YOUWIN programme was properly designed to harness the full potential of the youths for the nation’s economic development.
The A-G described the youths as veritable agents of change, full of energy and entrepreneurial potential necessary for technological advancement of any nation.
Onyendilefu, who was represented on the occasion by Mr Ambrose Nwachukwu, the Vice-President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone C, also commended the Liberation Farm initiative of the Abia Government.
He blamed the involvement of youths in crime and other social vices on unemployment, breakdown in the family and institutional values, as well as poor educational system.
He opinioned that the Nigerian youths could become “more focused, positive-minded and responsible, if government can address these factors.”
Onyendilefu enjoined the Federal Government to create modern technological centres across the country for the training of youths in new technological innovations.
He promised that the state government would collaborate with the association to train 1,200 of its members in Information Communication Technology.
