A welfare package that would ensure that female students enjoy free chicken in their meals every forth night  has been introduced by the Zamfara government.

This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the state’s Schools Feeding Agency, Alhaji  Sanusi Usman in an interview with the press in Gusau.

He said that a total of 1,800 chickens would be provided and distributed every month for female  students in all boarding and semi-boarding post primary schools.

According to Sanusi, six of the benefiting students would share one chicken every two weeks, as a measure  by the  State government to do everything possible to keep children of school going age in school. He assured that efforts had also been put in place to reduce the burden of feeding by parents.

Sanusi said that in the past, only one chicken was share by ten students which the present administration saw as inadequate.

He said the state government would also provide two eggs per student three times  per week, while seasonal foods such as oranges, mangoes, water melon and groundnuts would be added to their daily meals.

The executive secretary said that N330 million was earmarked for feeding the over 160,000 students attending state government  owned post primary schools in the state.
