Workers Task Amaechi On Affordable Housing
Some civil servants in Rivers State have urged the Rivers State governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi, to pay more attention to workers welfare in the area of affordable housing in 2012.
The workers who were reacting to the 2012 maiden broadcast of the governor to the people of the state, where he said that the welfare of civil servants will be sustained; opined that much has not been done in the area of housing, which his been a very serious challenge to civil servants.
According to information officer in the Ministry of Information and Communication in the state who prefer to be anonymous, the challenges being faced by workers on accommodation is tremendous, and urged government to come up with a package for housing for Rivers workers.
On his part, Mr Apollous, popularly known as “Freeman” in one of the ministries said “I listened to the governor’s broadcast, and was happy that he is beginning to speak well of public servants in the state as he now recognises them as the engine room for execution of government programmes”.
He said that all the good intentions of the governor will be very visible on how he tackles the welfare of the civil servants, and urged him to take their housing need very seriously.
Also reacting to the broadcast s teacher in the state opined that workers will be happier, if in this year 2012, a clear policy directive will be given to provide affordable housing for the people, especially, civil servants in the state.
