An Abuja Senior Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced two of its security guards, Ayuba Gabi and Sunday kassa, to 90 days imprisonment each for stealing five plates.

Gabi, 20, and Kassa, 20, both of Security Lead Guard Patro, Abuja, were charge for conspiracy and theft before Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Ilelah.

Police Prosecutor Cpl. Simon Emmanuel told the court that one Adamu Mohammed of Judiciary Security, Life Camp, Abuja reported the case to the Police on November 21.

He said the two accused were deployed to secure the court premises, but conspired and stole five plates, belonging to the High Court Execution Department, Abuja.

The convicts had pleaded guilty to the charges and asked the court to temper justice with mercy.

In his ruling, IIelah said it was very sad that the convicts had to steal from the same court premises they were employed to secure.

He said their conviction was to serve as a deterrent to others who might want to commit a similar offence, and sentenced them to 90 days imprisonment each without an option of fine.
