Teenager In Prison Custody For Murder

A teenage boy, 19, Mr Chinwendu Egbo has been remanded in prison custody by a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court Presided over by E.C. Woke for allegedly killing one Chukwuma Akachu.

Mr Chinwendu Egbo is standing trial on four count charges of murder, participating in secret cult activities among other crimes.

The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Godwin Nwinam had told the court that the accused person, Mr Chinwendu Egbo and others now at large on the 6th of June, 2011 at Ndele Town in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State within the Port Harcourt Magistrate District did conspire among themselves to commit felony to wit murder.

Inspector Nwinam further told the court that  the accused person and his accomplice now at large on the same date and place did murder one Chukwuma Akachu of Ndele town.

According to him, the accused person and others now at large did constitute themselves into a body of persons that participated in secret cult activities in the area which resulted in the death of the deceased.

He averred that the offence committed by the accused person are punishable under Section 324, 319(1), 7(c) and 1(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol. 11 Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999 and the secret cult and similar activities (prohibition) Law No. 6 of 2004, Rivers State.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, E.C. Woke, while remanding the accused person in prison custody directed that the original file be sent to the Directorate  of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and advised the accused person to seek bail in high court.

The case was later adjourned to 23rd February, 2012.
