Sokoto’s Escape: Blame IGP, Don Urges
As reactions trail the escape from police custody of Mallam Kabiru Sokoto, the alleged mastermind of Christmas Day bombing St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Madatta, a lecturer with the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Sofiri Joab-Peterside says, the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim must be held accountable for the incident.
Mallam Sokoto allegedly escaped from the police custody, while being taken to his house for searching.
But in a telephone interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, Dr. Peterside said that the Inspector-General of Police has a serious case to answer in the escape of the suspect and should be made to produce him.
The University don noted that the situation is a confirmation of President Jonathan’s recent statement that Boko Haram has infiltrated into the rank and file of government and the security agencies.
“It is now clear that there is political sponsorship of Boko Haram. The president must make sure that those responsible for this are brought to book,” he said.
Apart from charging the presidency to ensure that the Inspector General of Police is made to produce Mallam Sokoto, Dr. Peterside also stressed the need for the government to beam its searchlight on the entire police hierarchy, security agencies and the Borno State Government House.
According to him, President Jonathan must use this opportunity to convince all Nigerians that he is seriously disposed to check the influence of Boko Haram and its sponsors.
