RSSDA Student Wins Award In UK

Betty Odema, one of the physically challenged beneficiaries of the Governor’s Overseas Scholarship programme at the Nottingham Trent University has won the 2011 Shine Awards in the United Kingdom.

The International Student shine Awards is an annual campaign which commemorate the achievements of international students studying in the UK; It telebrates international students who truly make the most of their experience of studying in the UK and who seize the opportunities it presents in working for the advantage of their communities both in the UK and in their home countries  The award opens doors to contacts, experiences and resources that can benefit personal development and important projects.

In 2011, 1,200 persons from 118 countries, in different universities and colleges from all over the UK entered the ninth annual International Student Awards;  a competition organised by the British Council. As part of the competition, international students across the United Kingdom. They students are required to share stories about their extra-curricular achievements, showing how they spend their time in the UK and how they have contributed and impacted their environment and the society at large.

Out of the 1,200 entries, 27 finalists were selected and Betty emerged runner-up for the East Midlands region in the UK, for Shine International Student of the Year 2011.
