RSG Commences Demolition Of Illegal Structures

The State Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, has commenced the demolition of illegal structures, shanties and batchers in parts of the state capital.

The operation which was led by the Commissioner for Urban Development, Dr. Tammy Danagogo and other top officials of the Ministry Friday covered areas including, Aba Road, G.R.A, Nkpogu and Rainbow town.

Speaking to newsmen. shortly after the operation, Dr. Danagogo warned owners of such structures in any part of Port Harcourt and its environs to remove them or risk their eventual demolition.

He decried a situation whereby residents and developers constitute themselves into nuisance and lawlessness by persistently erecting structures that are against stipulated Urban and Pphysical planning regulations.

The commissioner noted that henceforth, such structures would not only be demolished, but their owners would be arrested and prosecuted, especially those who had been given the concession of extended notice.

According to him, the Ministry was prepared more than ever before to restore Port Harcourt to its original master plan as well as its garden city status.
