The President of Rotary Club of  Port Harcourt  North, Rotarian Emmanuel Ogbonda has described the  proposed deregulation of the petroleum sector as panacea to the perennial fuel problem in the country.

Rotarian Ogbonda who is also a Civil Right Activist told newsmen in an interview in Port Harcourt that deregulation  is the  key to solving the problem  of petrol scarcity in the country and called on Nigerians to be patient.

He reasoned that the complete removal of fuel subsidy would have paved way for a healthy competition in the oil sector.

While stressing the need for proper cleansing of the sector, he noted that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)  should play a regulatory role as is being witnessed in the communication sector where the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) is the regulatory body.

Rotarian Ogbonda also stressed the need for the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to dialogue with the Federal Government on the modalities for the implementation of the subsidy  from petroleum products.

Ogbonda said the Federal Government means well for the citizenry.
