Police Probes Female Corper’s Abduction …As Abductors Demand N10m Ransom
Detectives from the Rivers State Police Command have commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction of a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identified as Miss Patience from Enugu State in Odagwa, Etche Local Government Area of the state by unknown gunmen, last Sunday.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Ben Ugwuegbulam who disclosed this in a telephone interview with The Tide said that the police had commenced full investigations into the incident.
Ugwuegbulam however said no contact has been established with the abductors but maintained that the police is working with other security operatives in the area to secure the release of the female corps and her friend.
A source told The Tide that the incident occurred by 3pm at community Secondary School Odagwa, where the female corp member and her colleagues including a female friend were before the hoodlums attacked them.
According to the source, the unidentified gunmen numbering over six were armed with knives, axes and other weapons adding that two of the male corpers escaped from their hands.
The Tide learnt that three persons from the community have been arrested by men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) for their various roles in the crime.
The Tide further learnt that the incident is already causing pandemonium in the community while the kidnappers are demanding the sum of N10 million ransom.
When contacted, the chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon Reginald Ukwuoma appealed for calm assuring that the council has put every mechinery in place for quick release of the female youth corper and her friends from their abductors.
He thanked the people of Odagwa community for their efforts to ensure that those behind the crime are arrested, adding that his administration would not renage in its promise to protect lives and properties in the area.
