PDP Urges Support For FG
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged Nigerians especially those sceptical of government’s intentions to take advantage of the new window to contribute their quota to national development and desist from misinforming the people.
The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali stated this in a message to the federal government and the organised labour over the successful resolution of the impasse that characterised the decision to deregulate the downstream of the petroleum industry.
According to Prof Alkali, the decision by labour to call off the strike, following the gesture by President Goodluck Jonathan showed the importance of dialogue which the party had always campaigned for.
The National Publicity Secretary noted that the successful end to the reign of discomfort brought upon the people signalled government’s positive disposition to the yearnings of the masses.
The party reiterated that no society could progress in an atmosphere of blackmail, intimidation, falsehood and undue politicisation of issues.
He appealed to Nigerians to beware of some elements whose interests go beyond the agitation for the reduction of the price of petroleum products.
“Now that government and labour have reached a compromise, it is time to resume our normal day-to-day legitimate businesses and jealously safeguard our hard-earned democracy which some of these elements attempted to undermine in the guise of the recent agitations”, Prof. Alkali stated.
