Obuoforibo Was Dear To Rivers People-Amaechi
Rivers State Governor,Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday described the death of Prof. Abiye Obuoforibo as a great loss, saying the deceased was dear to Rivers people.
Governor Amaechi said this at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Okrika where a funeral service was held for the late Obuoforibo.
“I must say that Rivers people have lost somebody that was very dear to us”, Amaechi said.
On Prof. Obuoforibo’s contributions, Amaechi said, “in 2007, the Rivers State Government felt it necessary to approach the late Prof. Abiye Obuoforibo to serve in the state Economic Advisory Council, and I must say that in his capacity as an adviser, Prof. Obuoforibo discharged his responsibilities very well”.
“In fact, he also made a lot of contributions on the area of primary health care”.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Okrika Diocese, Rt. Rev. T.R. Abere explained that “death was the cessation of life, an opening to the life after this life”, where those who believed in Jesus Christ would live forever with God.
Bishop Abere described the late Prof. Obuoforibo as one who “had an implicit faith in God and gave generously to the needy”.
Using Prof. Obuoforibo’s fulfilled life as reference, the Rt. Rev. Abere said the joy and purpose of life were to fulfill God’s will and make positive impact.
