Nations Cup: Drogba Gives Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 Victory Against Sudan

Chelsea strongman Dider Drogba has given his country, Ivory Coast the first win against Sudan in the ongoing Orange African Cup of Nations co-hosted by Guinea and Gabon.

Drogba’s 40th minute header gave Ivory Coast a 1-0 against Sudan in their Nations Cup match opener yesterday.

It was a trademark header by the forward, who leapt high to power the ball in after good work by his Chelsea teammate Solomon Kalou.

Sudan mounted pressure shortly after the goal and almost” responded immediately but Moutata’s shot was tipped on to the bar by Barry. Besides, the Sudanese proved stubborn in defence.

The Ivorians should have wrapped the game in the second half but Gervinho, Yaya Toure and Drogba were guilty of bad misses.

The Elephants of Ivory Coast are clear favourites to finish top of the group, and many have tipped the West African juggernauts to go all in the 2012 installment, given the fact that fellow-hitters Egypt, Cameroun and Nigeria are all missing from the tournament.
