Kano Bombing: Death Toll Hits 183 …Defence Minstry Not Under Threat – Minister

The Kano State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, has confirmed that 185 persons have so far died in the recent bombings in Kano, last Friday.

Ibrahim said that 29 of the victims were policemen, three from State Security Service (SSS), two of Immigration services and one of  Customs.

The Police chief explained that 10 explosive laden vehicles have also been recovered.

He said the vehicles were recovered following close surveillance by the command. He condoled with the families that lost loved ones in the bomb blasts and wished those who sustained injuries quick recovery.

In a related development, the Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Haliru  Mohammed said yesterday that it was untrue that the ministry was under the threat of Boko Haram as being alleged n some quarters.

The minister made the clarification in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

He explained that the rumour that there was an explosion around the Ministry of Defence yesterday was also untrue, explaining that what happened was just an encounter between the security operatives and a tresspasser.

There were unlawful articles found on a suspect who was believed to be drunk and so he was quickly handed over to military authorities to ensure that he was not connected with any criminalities “, the minister said.

He further assured members of the public of the command’s commitment to combating the Boko Haram menace and solicited for the cooperation of all Nigerians.
