Ikuru Wants 2012, Dedicated To Service
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, has described 2012 as a year of refreshing and re-wakening, calling on Christians to make it a year of service to God and humanity.
Engr. Ikuru gave this hint at the New Year Thanksgiving Service at St. Simon’s Anglican Church, Ikuru Town in Andoni Local Government Area of the State.
Urging Christians to acknowledge God’s goodness and mercy in preserving them alive through 2011, he charged them to “bear fruit” that would justify God’s favours in their lives in the new year, challenging them to identify projects of services to be rendered by them to their families, Churches and communities that would positively impact the society.
In her sermon, Vicar of the Church, Venerable Atanfut Ogbidor, enjoined Christians that having received God’s grace to enter into the new year, they should live clean lives in order to attract more of God’s blessings, announcing that “God is in a hurry to bless people this year.” He therefore urged them to give God prime place in their lives.
In his speech, Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Mr. Orom Nte Ereforokuma, expressed delight over the relative peace and harmony prevailing in the area, attributing the development witnessed in the past year to the peaceful environment. He expressed optimism that more massive development in terms of road construction, electricity and economic prosperity would come to the area in 2012.
He enjoined the people of Andoni to sustain the peace and harmony in the area, noting that ongoing collaboration between his administration and the state government, the New partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and other organisations would result in developmental projects coming to the area. He also appealed to communities which were yet to benefit from the connection to the national grid to “be patient as everyone would be taken care of,” assuring that all ongoing State Government projects in the area would be concluded on schedule.
