Ikuru Urges Christians To Be Closer To God
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, has said the nation can only overcome her current challenges by absolute dependence on God.
Engr. Ikuru said this yesterday, during a thanksgiving and child dedication service in honour of Mr and (Dr) Mrs Tonma Secondus, son of PDP National Organising Secretary, Prince Uche Secondus, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, “Open Heaven Parish,” Old GRA, Port Harcourt.
Engr. Ikuru attributed his ability to overcome all challenges that faced him in 2011 to divine favour from God, urging Christians to depend only on God for protection and better 2012, thanking members of the church for their persistence in prayer for the government.
“2011 elections were full of challenges and intrigues, we succeeded, not because of our righteousness, but because God shielded us and granted us favour, Engr Ikuru said.
In his speech, National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, expressed happiness that God has continuously done new things in his family and service life, anchoring his success in life on prayers and seeking the face of God at all times.
“I am an altar boy and decided to build an altar for God wherever I go,” he said, thanking God for the new-born baby, Iton-Awaji who was dedicated to God at the Church.
Also speaking, the Acting Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Hon. Samspon Egop urged the people to appreciate God and other for extending good gestures and favour to them in the form of money and prayers, adding that appreciation attracts further favours.
He explained that Andoni Local Government Council is committed to providing the necessary amenities that would promote good governance in the area, noting that, “already, we are taking the national grid to Andoni from Kpean in Ogoni, constructing internal roads, providing potable water and ensuring that the health centres in the LGA are in good condition.”
Earlier in his sermon titled, “The Beginning of a New Thing,” taken from Isaiah 43:18-19 and Jeremiah 2:27, Pastor Emmanuel Opolo of the Church explained that it is only in God that believers can forget their present ordeal and expect brighter days ahead.
He remarked that God would always do new things,” because. He cannot change, controls times and season and has maintained a dependable track record,” urging Christians to reap divine benefits through their show of gratitude, dedication and fear of God.
