Housewife Remanded Over Murder Of 9-Month Old Baby
A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ court on Thursday remanded a Housewife, Maryam Muhammad, 35, in prison custody over the murder of her mate’s nine-month-old baby.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. John Idoko, told the court that Maryam, a resident of Dan-Daura Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested by the Police, following a complaint by one Isah Saidu on November 17, 2011.
The prosecutor said the accused was discovered to have allegedly dumped the child into a well following investigation by some villagers.
He said the suspect contravened section 221 of the Penal Code through her action.
When the charges were read to the accused in Hausa language, she told the court that she understood the allegations.
The Magistrate, Hajia Halima Aminu, said the court had no jurisdiction over the matter.
She said the case was only brought to the court for cognisance and directed that Halima be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice by the Ministry of Justice.
She adjourned the case to February 1.
