Group Tasks FG On National Security
A socio political organisation comprising of indigenes of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, resident in Rivers State, Akwa/Cross has condemned the killings of Christians in the north by the extremist Islamic sect Boko Haram.
Reacting to the increasing spate of bombings in the north, president of the organisation, Comrade Emmanuel Inyang, said the killings of Christians in the north undermines the unity of Nigeria, and called on the federal government to live up to its responsibility of protecting lives and property.
He called on the federal government to uncover the masterminders of the killings and ensure that justice is done.
The group also called on the northern Governors Forum, to break their silence on the bombings in the north, by making a policy statement that will assist in putting an end to the killings.
The group also commended the developmental strides of the Governors of Akwa Ibom and Cross River State Godswill Akpabio and Liyel Imoke respectively in the transformation of the two sister state.
Ahead of the local government polls to be conducted in the two states, the group called on the governors to provide a level playing ground, that will promote intense grassroots involvement and participation in the elections.
According to the body, the beauty of democracy will be enhanced in the two states, if the people are given a chance to choose their local government chairmen and councilors without undue interferences.
The group also called on the electoral umpires to release the election timetable earlier to ease the process of participation in the electoral process.
