Group Hails Amaechi’s N3.03bn Allocation For Food

The President of the Devine Omoku Favoured Farmers Co-operative Investment and Credit Society Limited Mr. Nwokoma Davidson has lauded the Rivers State governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for allocating the sum of N3.03b to agriculture in the state’s 2012 budget.

Mr. Davidson who made the commendation in Port Harcourt over the weekend to our special correspondent urged the state government to strictly monitor the implementation of the budgetary allocation to simulate genuine growth and investment in agricultural activities, especially at the local government level where potentials exists.

He further called on the government to provide  credit facilities to genuine co-operative farmers in order to promote agricultural production and industrialisation.

The group also urged the government to fully engage Rivers youths in its agricultural policies as a means of curbing unemployment in the state, adding that agriculture remained globally acclaimed as one of the highest employer of labour.

On the removal of oil subsidy by the Federal Government, the group canvassed for proper utilisation of funds accruing from the process, adding that such funds be channeled to the development of the agricultural sector to boost food sufficiency and production in the  country.
