Governance Improving In Rivers
Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on the New Partnership for African Development(NEPAD), Dr Tex Wariboko, says there have been marked improvements on building strong government institutions in the state since the inception of the Amaechi led administration.
Dr Wariboko made the declaration while chatting with Government House reporters shortly after being sworn-in the second time as an aide to the Governor on NEPAD Matters.
He stated that since Governor Amaechi assumed office in 2007, there had been a deliberate pursuit by the administration to institute a transparent and accountable leadership. In the first few years we tried to make sure that there is a strong institutional framework and the right structure…and in the process of doing that we have already come up with ideas and initiatives, projects and programmes”.
In the next few months, he assured, that the programmes and projects would be implemented assuring that they are geared towards improving lives, reducing poverty and promoting socio-economic development.
The NEPAD Chief promised to use the office to leave a lasting legacy and landmarks to improve the lives of the populace, which according to him is the main objective of the body.
Commenting on the Peer Review Status of the State, Dr Wariboko averred,” the state is in the Peer Review Process and I beleive the state is doing well in a number of areas like education, health and good governance.”
He explained that the Peer Review Mechanism is an African initiative aimed at fostering growth and development among member states adding,” “we are happy that the Governor’s Forum has sought ways to complement us but we would work with the state Governors to ensure that we monitor our projects and we are able to shine among the other states”.
He expressed the hope that with the current government transformation agenda, a lasting legacy would be bequeated for future generations in the state.
