For amicable resolution of the dispute occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal, the National Industrial Court has ordered the Attorney General of the Federation, Muhammed Adoke (SAN) and the organised Labour to report in court on February 9, for a format progress made in the out of court settlement.

The President of the court, Justice Babatunde Adejumo said the court invoked section 20 of  the NIC Act 2006 to order for amicable resolution.

Section 20 of the NIC Act provides that “in any proceeding in the court, the court may promote reconciliation among the parties thereto and encourage and facilitate the amicable settlement thereof.”

The Attorney General of the Federation had on January 6, approached to grant the Federal Government injunction to restrain the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress respectively from embarking on strike.

The Labour failed to comply with the court order but embarked on nationwide strike from January 9.

The Labour last Sunday suspended the strike following President Goodluck Jonathan’s announcement of reduction of pump price from N141 to N97 per litre, as well as taking measures to overhaul the petroleum industry.
