FG, Community To Complete Power Project In Anambra
The Ministry of Power, has reached an agreement with Ihiala community in Anambra State to complete the electricity transmission sub-station in the community, a statement said.
The statement, stated that the project was abandoned seven years ago because of land disputes and non-payment of compensation to the land owners.
It said the Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji, secured the agreement when he visited the community to receive the chieftaincy title of Ife Mba of Ihiala from the Igwe of Ihiala, Dr. Okechukwu Oluoha.
The minister received the title, which means: ‘the light of Ihiala”, in appreciation for his contributions to the development of Nigeria and Ihiala.
The statement, signed by Malam Ibrahim Haruna, an Assistant Chief Information Officer in the ministry, said that the project was one of the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) in the country.
The ministry said that the contractor handling the project would soon get back to site and urged the community to cooperate with the contractor.
It said the project would improve power supply in the area, boost economic activities and employment opportunities in the area.
Nnaji appealed to communities to always release land to the government, especially when land was needed to build projects that would benefit the people.
He said that the Federal Government would bye-pass any community that refused to cooperate with the government in its electrification programme.
Nnaji also urged the community to use its rivers to build small hydropower stations, saying the government would support any community that took such step.
