Farming Season: Commissioner Urges Expert Advice
The Anambra Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Godson Ezenagu on Tuesday, urged farmers to always seek advice from agricultural experts in planning for the farming season ahead.
Ezenagu, who gave the advice in an interview in Onitsha, also urged farmers to consult with ministry officials always for proper counsel.
The commissioner was speaking on steps farmers should take in order to ensure high yield in the on-coming farming season.
He said that with proper advice, farmers would be informed on the type of soil, seedling or stem that would suit their purposes.
He further advised rural farmers to take up farming as a business venture.
“My advice to Anambra farmers is that they should plan before they go into farming; because if you fail to plan, you are already failing.
“You should know the type of crop you want to go into and you should know the type of land you want to go into. We all know the land around us; we know which one yield more fruits than the others. Of course they are not the same variety.
“And we want to know the kind of seedlings we are going to use. Seedlings are not the same. There are improved varieties. Anambra farmers should come to ministry of agriculture and be properly advised and guided so they choose the right seedlings; right stems and the right fertilisers too.
“A combination of these three would give you high yield.’’
