The Ekiti State House of Assembly has recommended the compulsory retirement of the suspended former chief judge of the state, Justice Kayode Bamisile

The Tide reports that the NJC had on December 21, 2006 recommended the compulsory retirement of the judge.

The House Majority Leader, Mr Churchill Adedipe, moved the motion for the approval of the NJC’s recommendation.

He based his motion on Section 292 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

According to him, the section empowers the State Assembly to recommend the retirement following a two-third majority vote of the House.

Adedipe urged the House to recommend the compulsory retirement of Bamisile to Governor  Kayode Fayemi.

Contributing to the motion, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Orisalade Taiwo, and another member, Mr Ayodeji Odu, supported the motion, saying it was constitutional.

The motion was unanimously approved by the members of the House.

Meanwhile, the House has passed the Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency Bill, 2011.

The Tide reports that the Bill seeks to establish an agency for primary health care services in the state.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Health and Human Services, Mr Alexander Ade-Ojo, had earlier presented his committee’s report on the Bill.

The House had last year mandated the committee to further scrutinise the bill.

Ade-Ojo said a public hearing was organised by the committee to collate stakeholders’ views on the bill.
