Bishop Tasks FG On Prudent Subsidy Fund
The Anglican Bishop of Aba Diocese in Abia State Rt. Rev. Chiodoadigh Ugwuzor has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to manage the money realised from subsidy removal efficiently to restore public confidence in governance.
Ugwuzor told newsmen in Aba that the masses’ sacrifices would be made to assuage with the successful management of the money realised from the subsidy.
“The money accrued from the partial removal of subsidy should be judiciously utilised so that people would know that government meant well for them.
“The only thing is that Nigerians don’t trust government anymore because of their past experiences, but let us give this one the benefit of the doubt”.
Ugwuzor decried the present artificial scarcity of fuel in some parts of the country, saying that it was morally wrong for fuel dealers who wee dispensing the product when it was above N150 to have turned around to stop dispensing when it was reduced to N97.
The bishop appealed to the federal and state governments to compel fuel dealers to adjust their pump price to N97, in order to stop inflicting further hardship on the masses.
Meanwhile, the cleric had condemned the killing of Christians in the North by Boko Haram and urged the Islamic sect to respect the sanctity of life.
Ugwuzor admonished members of the sect to embrace dialogue to bring about an enduring peace in the country.
