Armed Forces Remembrance Peaks On Sunday
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities enter the fifth day Friday, with Juma’-at Service at the 2 Amphibious Brigade, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt.
The programme started last Sunday, January 8, 2012 with inter-denominational Church Service at St Barnabas Anglican Church, Elekahia Port Harcourt where, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi extolled the patriotism and high messure of sacrifice by the Armed Forces.
Governor Amaechi also used the forum to stress national peace and unity and assured, Moslems and Christians alike who live and do business in the state peaceful co-existence.
Earlier, a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Burearu and Chairman, State Central Planning Committee Mrs Sovins Okari for Secretary to the State Government said the remembrance programme will peak on Sunday, January 15, 2012 with the ceremonial laying of Wreath at the Isaac Boro park Cenotaph Port Harcourt.
The statement enjoined top government functionaries, traditional rulers, youth bodies, Voluntary organization, captains of Industry and Labour to participate in the programmes as a sign of respect for our fallen heroes and the legionnaires.
Mr. Okari thanked Rivers people for their disposition to earlier items of the remembrance programme and urged them to maintain tempo.
