Appeal Court Upholds Elechi’s Election, Sacks Three Legislators
The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu has re-affirmed the election of Gov. Martins Elechi of Ebonyi, just as it sacked three PDP Legislators from the state House of Assembly.
In a unanimous decision, the chairman of the three-man panel, Mrs. Justice Helen Ogunwunmi, dismissed the appeal of Sen. Julius Ucha of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) for lack of merit.
Ogunmwunmi said the appellant failed to prove the relief sought from the court and therefore dismissed the case.
The panel did not, however, award any cost to the defendants.
In another development, the court quashed the elections of three PDP state legislators from Ebonyi and ordered INEC to conduct fresh elections within 90 days.
