Xmas: NNPC Promises Availability Of Kerosene
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) last Friday said it was working towards making kerosene available to Nigerians during the Christmas season.
The NNPC Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, Dr Levi Ajuonuma gave this assurance in a telephone interview with The Tide correspondent in Lagos.
Ajuonuma said that the corporation had set machinery in motion to ensure that the product was available, adding that the country had enough of the product in stock.
He said that the current scarcity was caused by some marketers who were in the habit of diverting and hoarding the product.
“There is sufficient quantity of kerosene in circulation, the complaint of scarcity is baseless, we don’t need to resort to panic buying,” he said.
Ajuonuma also assured Nigerians that government was working hard towards resolving all the odds hindering availability of the product.
The Tide reports that price of kerosene has increased by more than 150 per cent, resulting in long queues at the NNPC mega stations and some other filling stations in Lagos and other states.
Our source reports that the product was being sold for between N175 and N190 per litre in the filling stations against the official N50 per litre.
