Team Member Seeks Sporting Activities Revival
The Rivers State Sports Council, has been urged to revive its sports activities in the interest of sports development in the state.
The call was made by a member of Omerelu All Stars FC, Ngozi Wonnah in an interview with sports journalists shortly after a novelty match between Omerelu All Stars FC and All Stars of Elele which ended 1-1 at Omerelu play ground last weekend.
Wonnah who is popularly called Black Shadow said that the revival of sports activities in the sports council has become imperative as it would enable the state government to discover hidden talents in the state.
He recalled that in the past many of the sports talents in the state were discovered during sports activities organised by the sports council adding that such activities would also help to reduce youths involvement in crime and other anti-social behaviours.
Also speaking, Mr Ukay Emejuru, described sports particularly football as one of the sporting events that should not be allowed to die.
Emejuru also recalled how the game creates relief moments for players and fans, while calling for grassroots talent hunt in order to fish out some hidden talents.
He said that Omerelu and Elele communities plan to make the event an annual activity so as to maintain the peaceful co-existence between the two communities.
