Soccer Academy Urges Grassroots Sports Dev

The team manager of

Orlando Football academy, in Rivers State, Miebaka Mathew has appealed to the state government to focus more on promotion and development of grassroots sports in the state.

Martins, made the appeal in an exclusive interview with Tidesports, over the weekend, at sharks Football Stadium in Port Harcourt.

According to him. Government has not gives grassroots sports development the desired attention adding that grooming of young talents in various sporting events would give the state added advantage in National and international competition.

I am using my little resources to train these boys (players) especially provision of football boots and jersie3s to ensure that they become better persons to their family and the society” Martins said.

He stressed the need for ministry of sports in the state to take identify registered football academies and also assist them financially to enable to train players that would represent the state.

“My brother, as I am speaking to you now, we have some registered football academies, they are collapsing because of poor financial standing. I plead that government should come to their aid” he stated.

The team manger, explained that his objective of establishing the football academy is to develop grassroots football and engage youths meaningfully.

Martine used the opportunity to call on youths in the state be actively in sports activities involved pointing out that sports is not only about money making but also keeps people to be physically and mentally fit.
