Risonpalm To Employ 3000 Workersa
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has said the leasing of the state owned Risonpalm to a private company would bring good result especially in employment generation.
Governor Amaechi said about 3000 Rivers people would be employed by the private company which took over Risonpalm when it fully kicks off its operations.
Governor Amaechi disclosed this last Sunday, at the 191st convention of the Ogbakor Ikwerre cultural organisation worldwide, held at Ovogo Odegu in Emohua Local Government Area of the State.
“The new owners will replant. It is not machines that will plant, it will be human beings. The owners have said when they finish, a minimum of between 3,000 to 4,000 workers will be employed”, Amaechi said.
The Governor who assured that his government would acquire 10,000 hectares of land to revive the abandoned rice farm in Rumuewhor community of Emohua Local Government Area, said when the rice farm was revived, many people would be engaged to work on the farm and “we shall also be creating an economy that can feed the people”.
On other related matters, Governor Amaechi said though many roads had been completed within his first tenure, more road contracts would be completed in the state, assuring that the Ada George Road and the Obiri Ikwerre Flyover would be ready in the early part of next year.
Amaechi also spoke of his government’s vision on education, saying, a lot of Rivers children were on scholarship overseas. He went on to list other achievements recorded by his administration in his first tenure in all sectors of the economy, and pledged to sustain the development in the state.
In his address, the President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention, Chief Sampson Agbaru, said Rivers people were deeply impressed with the numerous achievements so far recorded by the Amaechi-led administration.
Chief Agbaru, a former Secretary to the State Government urged Governor Amaechi not to relent in bringing development to the state.
“Do not look back in your race to make Rivers state great, to improve the level of development, unity and security of Nigeria and to be the pride of Africa and giant in the world”.
