Rep Charts Path For Politicians
A member of the House of Representatives, Mr Victor Nwokolo, has called on members of the political class to see politics as a project whose foundation is the people.
Nwokolo, who represents Ika Federal Constituency of Delta, said in Agbor in Delta that unless politicians saw politics as a project anchored on the electorate, elected leaders would not see themselves as accountable to the people.
He noted that politicians should not see politics as a do-or-die game, but should help nurture the nation’s nascent democracy whether they won or lost elections.
The legislator said that the will of the people should always be allowed to prevail and assured his constituents of “proactive and efficient representation” in spite of the setback occasioned by litigation over his election.
Nwokolo, whose election in April was recently upheld by the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin, following a petition by an opponent, also called on the judiciary to continue to discharge its functions conscientiously.
He said the judiciary was the last hope of the common man, and that for any democracy to grow, the judiciary must not only be seen to be transparent, but must be above board.
